The difficulties associated with translating research into policy and practice particularly in the health services. As a result of these gaps patients do not receive the best quality standard care or in some cases the correct treatment they would be given if said gap was bridged. This article puts forward current concepts and evidence to help aid knowledge translation activities. The article is structured around 5 key questions; what should be transferred; to whom should research knowledge be transferred; by whom should research knowledge be transferred; how should research knowledge be transferred; and, with what effect should research knowledge be transferred?
