Dr. Reiner Banken started his studies in medicine in Germany. He obtained his medical degree from the Université de Montréal, where he also earned a master’s degree in community health. A consultant/researcher at AETMIS since 1998, he held different positions in the senior management at AETMIS and INESSS. He worked as an emergency physician for five years and as a specialist in public health for 12 years, including serving as the public health director for Québec’s Laurentian region.
Author of several publications and a large number of conferences in the area of public health and health technology assessment, Dr. Banken also serves regularly as a consultant to international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Between 2009 and 2011, Dr Banken was a member of the WHO's advisory committee on health technology.
From July 2007 to June 2009, Dr. Banken was president of Health Technology Assessment international (HTAi), an organization whose mission is to support the development, dissemination, understanding and use of health technology assessment around the world. Currently Dr Banken holds the position of Advisor to the CEO - Alliances and Networks. He is particulary involved in developping the intersection of evaluation and innovation, as well as international relations.
